Oneflare Handyman Landing Page: Designing a Bridge for Acquisition
As a Product Designer at Oneflare, I led the UX design for the Handyman landing page, a project with a unique strategic twist: it involved integrating Airtasker profiles shortly before Oneflare's acquisition by Airtasker. This wasn't just about crafting an appealing page; it was about designing a seamless user experience that anticipated and facilitated a significant business transition.
The UX Challenge: Strategic Integration & User Handoff
Our goal was to enhance the user experience for finding handyman services on Oneflare while simultaneously preparing for the impending Airtasker acquisition. This meant not only designing a new landing page but also building a transparent and intuitive flow for users who clicked on integrated Airtasker profiles. The core UX challenge was to manage user expectations and provide a smooth, clear transition between the two platforms, even before the acquisition was finalised.
My UX Design Process: From Flow to Figma Prototype
My process for this project was rooted in user-centred design, adapted to the dynamic business environment.
Mapping the User Journey with Flows
I began by mapping the complete user journey with detailed flow diagrams. This critical step allowed me to visualise every touchpoint and decision point, especially the crucial cross-platform handoff. The flow below highlights the intended user path:
This meticulous mapping ensured we created a seamless user journey, particularly demonstrating the need for an interstitial redirect page. This page was a vital UX component, serving as a clear message to the user that they were transitioning between brands, thereby managing expectations and minimising confusion during the handover.
Prototyping the Full Experience in Figma
Moving beyond static mockups, I developed a comprehensive, interactive prototype in Figma. This prototype didn't just show the landing page; it brought the entire user journey to life, allowing stakeholders to experience:
- Interaction with the redesigned Handyman landing page.
- Clicking on integrated Airtasker profiles.
- The interstitial redirect page in action, demonstrating its role in the transition.
- The seamless redirection to the Airtasker "Post a Task" page.
Leveraging Oneflare's existing design system, I quickly iterated on designs and ensured consistency. A key aspect was modifying existing card components to subtly yet clearly incorporate the Airtasker logo alongside Oneflare's branding. This demonstrated my ability to adapt and extend an established design system while maintaining brand harmony and preparing users for the future.
The UX Solution: Intuitive Integration & Responsive Design
The final design for the Handyman landing page successfully integrated Airtasker profiles, offering users a comprehensive and clear pathway to services.
The full-page design shows how the Airtasker integration was naturally woven into Oneflare's aesthetic, ensuring a cohesive user experience despite the introduction of external elements.
Crucially, the design was fully responsive, providing an optimised and consistent user experience across both desktop and mobile devices. This focus on responsiveness ensured accessibility and usability for all users, regardless of their preferred device.
Key Takeaways: My UX Gains
This project was invaluable in shaping my capabilities as a UX Designer:
- Strategic UX Thinking: I gained significant experience in designing not just for immediate user needs, but also for broader business strategies, particularly in the context of mergers and acquisitions.
- Complex Flow Management: I demonstrated proficiency in mapping and prototyping intricate user journeys involving multiple platforms and crucial transitional states.
- Design System Mastery: I effectively leveraged and adapted an existing design system to introduce new functionalities while maintaining brand consistency and design efficiency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: This project required close collaboration with product, engineering, and business development teams to align design solutions with strategic goals.
- User-Centric Adaptability: I honed my ability to keep the user at the forefront of design decisions even when navigating complex technical and business constraints.
This experience highlights my ability to deliver robust UX solutions in dynamic environments, ensuring user needs are met while contributing to broader business objectives.
